How can i check a specific user..How many email messages sent or recieve per day.
Do i need third party software? any freeware products available?
I need these kind of management tools urgently
Your positive input will be highly appreciated!!!!!

Exchange has tools to do this built-in.

Click on the configuation container and on both the MTA site configuration and Information Store Site configuration containers, enable Message Tracking. This should be enabled at as many sites as you want to monitor.

If you want to monitor Internet traffic, enable Message Tracking in the Internet Mail Service connector.

You should restart the services that you have enabled Message Tracking on.

All email movement is now logged in the shared directory Tracking.Log.

You run queries on the log files from the Message Tracking Center (Tools, Track Message)

Hope this Helps

You can use Crystal Reports to analyse the Message Tracking Logs. If you have the Backoffice Resource Kit you get Crystal Reports for Exchange with that. I've just started trying to do this although I don't have any Crystal experience at all so my attempts are a bit hit or miss at the moment. In the past I've imported logs into Excel so it may be possible to sort/query/analyse them that way to get the figures you're after.

Hope this helps

Microsoft exchange directory service seems to periodically stop for no reason, stacking up loads of messages in the MTA queue. They clear only after I stop the service and start it again. But what is causing it to stop for no reason. Most of the messages stacking up are Directory Service messages- ie replication messages. I have used the MTACHECK utility and it says everything is OK. Please help, I am being driven nuts!!

I have message tracking working on our Exchange, but find it not usefull enough. we have about 130 plus users so i need something that will work more efficient. Message tracking works fine if you a query on one user but if you have to find the your top email user it is going to take too much time finding him/her.I thought there will a third party software program it will analyze the the logfile and just give me the details.

A more expensive option would be something like Netiq Appmanager. I use that to monitor general Nt parameters on all of my servers, but with the Exchange agent running as well, you can pull off usage stats that relate purely to Exchange, such as top n users by number of emails, top n by size of email, and quite a few more. It's not cheap though and it may be a bit of overkill for this situation.
