Hi everyone, i know this is a easy one for all of you. I normally work on Northern Telecom equipment. I had a friend close his Medical office and he said if i deinstalled his Merlin Magix i could have it. Another Tech friend was with me and while i was outside he powered down the system and removed the cards. Well he does not remember there positions. Question is what slots each card should go in. Any Help would really be appreciated and thanks. Here are the Modules.

Processor W/CKE5
R2 Merlin Messaging
016 ETR
800 ICLID CS/LS-ID
412 TDL LS-ID

Thanks for any help......ShowMan315

The way you will have to solve this riddle is to use "SURROGATE" mode.

Install ONLY the processor into the backplane, connect to the ADMIN Port, access the "PRINT" function and print out the SYSTEM SETUP information.

That will tell you the order of the Modules.

Follow Merlinman's suggestion to find the correct order.

Pure speculation on my part....if the system has a 4424DL+ phone, I'll go out on a limb and say that the 412 TDL was to the right of the processor.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

Thanks, it does have a 4424LD+ Phone. So i know the processor would be in the far left slot next to the power supply which i believe is slot 1 and slot 2 would be 412 TDL. If you were the one configuring this system how would you place the last 3 cards on a new install. Also if i were to Power up this system with only the Processor Card would i use the 4424LD+ phone in the Admin port? I have not ever done any programming on this system before so any help on accessing Surrogate mode would really help. Any idea what type a value this system might be worth with the 4424LD+ and 5- 4406D+ phones all in really good shape.

Slot numbers - The Processor is Slot 0 (Zero). The 1st slot to the right of that is 1, and then 2 and so on...

No, the 4424 SHOULD NOT be placed in the admin port.

That port needs to connect to a serial port on your Computer, and you would need to use the WIN SPM Program to look at the data.

For the most part, Modules can be placed in any order.

W/O Win Spm, you are stuck with trying to guess the order they should be in.

Considering you only have the 3 modules, you could probably get away with this config:

Processor
412 Mod
016 Etr Mod
800 GLI Mod

Because you do not have any more Station Modules than the two, you probably WILL NOT have a problem with the incorrect translations being associated with your Extensions.

Also, because your other module is a LINE mod, it's location will not affect extension translations either.

I would FIRST just install the 412 and see if it came up.

Remember, however, the DISPLAY SET must have an external power supply, and connects to the Whi-Blu of the cable.

Thanks Merlinman, well after tearing a lot of things apart i just found the original installers documentation. It went as follows.

1- Processor
2- 412 TDL
3- 800 ICLID CS/LS- ID
4- 016 ETR
5- Merlin Messaging

I have a question on the port and card/ module. Documentation says the 4424LD+ was port 1 on the 412 TDL. I would like to test this equipment. If i were to hook up a 25pr cable to a 66/50 block how would the proper wiring be done for the 4424LD+?

Also Merlinman or anyone else. What type of value is there in this equipment w/ 5- 4406D+'s also and a Avaya 556 Radio Module. I know it is hard to determine that but any idea at all. When i took it out it worked perfectly about a year ago and has been store in a clean dry area in my home ever since. Thanks Everyone.....ShowMan315

Right now, the secondary market is saturated with used telephone systems so prices are depressed. This is mostly due to failed businesses.

Even though Avaya retired the Merlin platform back in 2006, there are scores of Legends and Magix out there still chugging away.

If it ain't broke, I haven't fixed it yet.

The 4424LD+ connects to the Wht/Blu pair of the amplenol on the 412TDL card. It is a single pair. It must connect to the "Line" port of the "wall-wart" power supply, and then a 4-conductor line cord goes from the "Phone" port to the 4424LD+ phone.

If you have an amp to modular adapter, you could plug that into the 412 card, run a line cord to the power supply, and the other side of the power supply to the phone, just for quick testing.

If you really want to learn the Magix, you can get all the documentation for the download from AVAYA: support.avaya.com

It covers everything you want to know about it for the most part. Anything else, post to Tek-Tips for answers.
