Can receive email through client - but when playing message can only play over speakers on PC - get error when try to play over phone - have tried on 2 different PC's same error

Can you do Play on phone through the MAS server? By that I mean go into caller application editor, create a new caller app, and see if you can use the telephone as the multi-media. This will tell you if the feature can be used. If it can then it probably a configuration issue on the client side, like firewall or DCOM not being enabled.

texeric - will try your suggestion and let you know
thx for the help

ok - i can record a caller app greeting through the same telephone that is giving me the problem on the thick client so the next step is ???

Can the thick client connect to one of your MAS servers by going into subscriber options? If it cannot then either it can't reach the server, or DCOM is not enabled on the client, or the client's firewall is not allowing DCOM traffic through. Also make sure the client software is the same as the major service pack version that is running on the MAS(s).

here is the actual error i get when try to play voicemail message over telephone using thick client

unable to initalize the voice player
an unexpected error has occurred. this may be due to a temporary problem with the voice server, mail server, or the network, please retry operation

but again i can play this message over the speakers of the pc

yes i can go into subscriber options through thick client

If your client can get into the subscriber options (the top two out of 3 buttons in the voicemail tab) then communications to the MAS should be good. So the next level is looking at the client logs and the corresponding vserver logs in the MAS to see what might be failing.
