I'm looking at implementing modperl into my site. From the research I've done so far, it seems as if it is necessary to edit the httpd.conf. Unfortunately, my host doesn't provide telnet or ssh access. So, I'm looking for a perlish solution to edit the config file. I do have access to the module Apache::httpd_conf, and quite a few other Apache modules as well. Any thoughts/suggestions would greatly be appreciated!

Thanks much!

Does your host provide mod_perl already?

PaulTEG, thanks for responding! Yes, my host does have mod_perl already installed. Is this even possible on a shared server?

Why won't they give you access to it?

On a shared server, I'd assume its relevant to the amount of memory available. If you enable mod_perl for your site, It's going to get noticed fairly quickly, and then you'll see why your host has disabled access to the httpd.conf. (for a short while at least ;-), while you look for a new host)

This is definitely one of those situations where you should have a discussion with your host. attempts to improve your own level of service to the detriment of other users is bound to violate their terms of service.

Good question! I wish I would have thought of this question when I was speaking to them earlier. However, I don't think I would get a straight answer, just a sales pitch for a dedicated server. Can you tell if this module would help me with this in any way: Apache::httpd_conf

Thanks again,

Or what about this module: Apache::perlSections

Any thoughts/experience on either of these modules would be greatly appreciated!
