I am trying to figure out step-by-step how to modify an alarm to change the info provided or to ignore completely. For example, I keet getting an alarm "Synoptics Agent x.x.x.x : Ethernet Board Power Supply Failure" I know this isn't the case as this unit is a token-ring device and I know the alert is basically junk since the device never worked properly. I just want to dump this alert from this device. Unmanaging the device didn't help. What is the best source for learning how to completely customize the alarming system to generate more useful alarms info? Finally, when I do customize alarm info am I doing it just for me or am I doing it globally for all users of this Openview platform. OV 6.2 on Solaris 2.8 AND THANKS.

Modifying an alarm is easy. Single click on the alarm you want to modify in the alarm browser, choose Actions>>Configure Event, and if you do not want ot see it, in the Alarm Category section, use the drop down menu and choose "do not log or display" and the trap will be dumped. This will work for all alarm browsers, not just yours as there is only one configuration for eaxch event.

You can place any text you like in the "Event Log Message" window, using $1, $2, $3 etc. to show the variable bindings comming in with the trap.
