Is there a standard procedure one should take when modifying a standard Macola ES Crystal Report? Should the report be modified on the Network distribution folder? Should the report be renamed or should I just modify the original? It will then need to be copied to the C:\Program Files\Exact Software folder on the desktop of those who need to run it, correct? Just wondering if there was a standard procedure I should follow when modifying a ES Crystal...Thank you.

You are correct that the modified report will need to be copied to the c:\ drive of every workstation that needs to run it.

If Exact ever updates this report, when you update your software your modified report will be replaced by their new report.

Is there some reason why you need to run the report through the ES interface and not through crystal itself or a crystal viewer?

Well, I'm running it thru ES because I'm just modifying an existing Macola Report. If I removed it from ES and made it Standalone, would need to create my own parameter and Record Selections...
I really just need to do some slight modifications to existing Macola ES reports. What is the standard practice that people use to prevent their reports from being overwritten when Macola is upgraded?

Well I don't know if there's a 'standard procedure' but this is what I do;

1). Create a new folder on your server specifically for holding any reports you modify. Make this a completely separate folder ouside of your Macola ES network install folder. Copy the report(s) you want to change to this folder and make your changes there - that way your reports do not get overwritten when you update Macola ES. You can also modify the report on your workstation for testing purposes and copy the report to the server folder when it's ready for general use.

2). Create a startup script to copy the contents of the modified reports folder on the server to the local workstation and assign the script to those people who use Macola. The script will copy any modified reports to the workstation every time the user logs on. If a Macola ES update is done to the client, the modified reports will be put in place by the user simply logging on and off. If you need to change a report, simply change it centrally at the server and have everyone log on and off to pick up the new changes.
