modifying instances....

Hello everyone... i have a quick question...
I have a symbol, and i am trying to modify the instance 2 different ways as it moves along in the movie... I am trying to get it to change colors, and change alpha from solid to transparent. The thing is, when i change the alpha, the tint defaults back, and vice versa. What's the deal...can flash not change both of them???

( i am using flash 4)

Have you tried the advanced or special settings.
You can modify tint & alpha!
