I have a literal on an exisitng map beginning in column 1. If i try to modify this literal in the same position it will not allow me to do so. It generates an error message "Invalid Position", which corresponds to "A detectable field may not begin in column 1". It does not allow the map to be saved. However, if i move this literal to column 2, it works just fine.

Is there some explanation to this ? Are there manuals anywhere i could refer to ? Thanks.

SDF-II can generate maps (or their equivalent) for CICS, IMS, and ISPF. It may be that one of these others places a restriction on the first column, and you have to work with the lowest common denominator :)

Is your screen so heavily crowded with data that this is causing you a problem? If not, just move it one column to the right. If you absolutely have to start in column 1, then generate the maps using column 2 with SDF-II, then change them by hand afterwards...

Steve,

Isn't there an attribute byte before each field, which in this case is in column 1?

Howdie,

perhaps a snippet of code will explain further.

Thanks
