Modify a Date in Access

I'd like to change the short date in Access97 from day/month/year to just month/year in the table input mask. I've tried following the input mask tips, but it keeps reverting back to the original code. What should I put in and where?
 
Sort by date Sort by votes
Control panel/Date Time/Regional Settings/Date/Short Time tab.

I've had numerous problems with that in the past. I always kepp the windows Short date And Long date in the same format, MM/dd/yyyy
