I have a problem where we have installed 5 3300 with IP trunking. We have DPNSS links from the SX2000 to 2 of the 3300's, which then have IP trunking to the PSTN gateways.

When modems try to dial up and communicate with another device, the systems dials the number but the modem does not connect properly and the connection is lost.

We have had to put 1 of the PSTN links back to the Sx2000's and the modems work fine going over that link.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to fault find this problem.

I have a feeling that it to do with the IP trunks.

Many thanks

What sw version are you running? If you have T38, it may think that it is a fax call.

To my knowledge, modems are not a supported endpoint either.

Software version???

With 7.1 there was a problem introduced that affected modems over IP trunks.

There is a maint Port command - T2EFaxDetOff()

Sounds like this might be your issue.

Occam's Razor - All things being equal, the simplest solution is the right one.

I am currently running 8 UR5.

IrwinMFletcher - I agree that modems are not rally supported but this company has currently got a lot of systems running modems to get and send information.

kwbMitel - If I enter his command, would this effect fax transmissions.

Thanks for your help

T2EFaxDetOff() will effectively put the system back into a R7.0 state, so your fax should still work if it worked before. If your network is good, you shouldn't have much problem.

Keep in mind that you have to enter this command on ALL controllers, and it doesn't survive a system reboot.

In fact using modems over IP never was a good idea. Whoever promised that you will not have any problems when sold you the system was wrong. For successful modem transmission DSP should decode modem protocol, convert it to a data stream and regenerate modem protocol on the other end. This is the only reliable solution. T38 is looking specificaly for fax protocols, so it's not a solution. I'm not aware of any solution of the problem for 3300 ICP. We had similar situation with modems. We were asked to deliver a whole bunch of analog lines to lots of locations. We researched alternatives and found much better way without any phone lines using native IP communications. Not fixing the problem, but eliminating it helps a lot.
