Modems getting disconnected

I have an opt. 81C and we have many analog ports connected to modems and faxes. It seems that over the past two weeks I've been getting 4 or 5 complaints that people dialing in(to modems from modems) are getting disconnected. These calls are coming in over T-1's and there is no problem with the voice calls. Also, there is a person here that dial out her external modem (analog 500) to a POTS line SEB moidem for our switch and constantly gets disconnected. When I connected a 500 line to the SEB it didn't drop at all. When I spoke to my carrier they said there was nothing they can do that maybe the db level was to low. Has anyone ever come across something like this before? Any help would greatly be appreciated. Thanks.

I had this problem once. I had to check each T1 port, with a maint phone to check each channel. I actually found channels that had some line noise. I replaced the T1 Cards and the problem went away.

Kind of a pre-historic way to check it out, but I didn't have a lot to do then.

The LEC will NEVER admit it is their problem, so try everything locally first. Also try making some test calls to the dialed numbers. There could be remote issues, but if more than one user is complaining, it's more likely a PBX issue.

check your clocking, make sure it's not free running

What do you mean by free running? How do I check it?

Go to LD 73 and PRT DDB
Look at PREF and SREF This is primary and secondary clock reference for your switch. Go to LD 60 SSCK 0 (stat system clock to see if clock is locked to (synched0 to the PREF loop. If it is clocking on SREF, something happened to primary loop which switched clocking sycn to secondary SREF loop. What perrp indicates is that if SSCK command shows tracking on neither, then FREE RUn should show as clock source..not good for long..Enter TRCK PCK to force clocking back to primary clock source. Ckeck with SSCK command again..

Went to load 73 and checked PREF it's 4 and SREF is 26. When I went to load 60 System clock says "trck on Loop 4."So I guess primary clock is set, but aren't I getting my clocking from the carrier? Shouldn't they be the master clock?

Need to ask about this again, our maintenece vendor is telling me the modems are disconnecting because of bandwidth. They said there isn't enough bandwidth on the T-1's? I can make a modem call from a POTS line on my switch and stay up on the call but as soon as I go out over the T-1 I get dropped. No errors on these T-1's either. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
