I tried using kppp to connect to my ISP but it wouldn't work. The modem would dial but it won't connect. I am using wvdial right now so I think it has something to do with the DNS. Is there anyway/program that I could have it auto-detect a DNS?

Don't know actually. Usually ISPs give you login infos + DNS-servermnames + proxy + whatever they want you to use.
Best would be to enter your ISPs DNS-serveraddress as other nameserver won't allow your queries.
