Hello all-

Having a wierd problem with a customer getting modem tones off of an unanswered line (appears to only be line 001) on about 6 rings.

I have checked all the connections, there is nothing else tied into that line, and have also confirmed that the IRAD is disabled and am totally stumped as to what it could be.

Any ideas?

if you have a CICS ver 6.0 you probably still have the IRAD turned on, this is a default setting and was an unplesent suprise for me. the IRAD answers line 1 on 6 rings out of the box. see thread799-471171

Are you doing anything with the FAX SWITCH in Auto Attendant?
While you are getting the tones on line 1, hit the line 1 button from another set. It should say "In Use" and tell you what DN is using it. That should give some clues.

After seeing Jerry's post, I agree. You said IRAD was disabled, but do you mean by never activating it by keycodes? Even though the IRAD is not activated, it will still answer so that you can activate it remotely by viewing the System ID then inserting keycodes for it.

Thanks for the prompt reply, guys. I'll check into it again this afternoon and see what happens!

Have you checked to see if there is an alarm (security) on the line. I ran into this once. take the line off the system and call, let it ring once, hang-up then call back...the alarm should answer, or it may be set to answer after 6 rings. I also thought that it could be the I-RAD.
Try it out

Nortechie-

That was my first thought as well, as alarm installers have the irritating habit of installing their equipment on the first line. However there is nothing else on the line besides the system.

I'm almost positive it is the IRAD. I'll know this afternoon.

I have one possibility that is pretty off the wall but it is easy to check. I had a customer that had a line that was on a telco pair that was previously connected to an alarm reporting computer, when the alarm reporting computer's line was disconnected from the telco neither the telco or the alarm people did an actual disconnect. then at a much later time(years) when this customer had added a line they reported intermittent modem answering line.

I disconnected the KSU and rang the suspect number to a butt set at the demark. when something else answered I was able to get the telco to chase it down.

in other words test at the demark and see if your problem is in-house or not, then disconnect and test at the KSU and see if the grouble is in-KSU or not.
