Hello,

I've recently install a new D-Link DRM-562I modem into a computer; to replace another modem that was fried from a power surge.

It now sometimes has trouble connecting to a remote modem. It gets the the "shhh SHHHH" part and then times out after about a minute. Can someone tell me if a 'connection' has been made and it's just trying to establish a procotal?

Also, does anyone have any ideas what else could be the problem?

Thanks,

Have you tried connecting manually to determine if there is a problem or not?

The only way to know if there is a problem or not is to see if carrier is actually established. You can determine this a number of ways, but one of the simplest is to use Hyperterminal to connect and watch the status messages as they come up. You will see CONNECTED when you have dialed manually if the connection is actually established.

Unfortunately you may not have any character-based information to look at once the connection is established.
