often, whilst visiting clients, I am unable to use my analogue laptop modem through a digital telephone network.

Does anybody know what I need for my laptop to enable this?

(I am running XP pro)

are you talking about in a office enviroment where they have a phone system? if so there would need to be a anologue line for you to use. i would always plug it into a fax jack as long as it was not a digital fax. if there is a modem that uses a digital line besides ISDN or dsl i would like to know!

You need to get a Konexx telephone adapter:

or a similar product. I have great success with mine over the years. You may have to dial by hand, but some systems will accept the modem's DTMF tones right through the handset.
