Modem/TA attached to Async/Sync port - Line already in use!

I am using a modem/TA attached to Sync/Async interfaces to dial a remote site. When I hit busy at the other end the interface times out as expected.

However, when I go to dial an alternative site the message "line already in use appears". Hence, it would seem that the line interface is not clearing.

I am running PPP & PAP aut.

Any Ideas!

Can you advise what manufacturer the modem/ta is ?

We have a similar problem and it often results in teh TD LED of the modem remaining active, locking out the port.

We are using PPP/TACACS and the only ways I have had of getting this resolved is to:-

1. Reset the interface
2. Power cycle the equipment (modem)
3. Reload the router
4. Power cycle the router!!!

If the modem is removed and used on a PC it works fine, but it reconnected to the port of the router the TR LED comes back on, implying it is a CISCO problem ?

im not 100% sure of this however I will put in my two cents of information ( thats about what it is worth , HAHA ) anyways type sh line look for the * next to the line , this should be the one in use on the async port/modem . Now type sh line # <-- this
being the line with the * . Look at the information . I'm wondering if it is staying active because it is seeing the modem activity . ( just a thought and I could be way off ) Typing in ( clear line and # will reset the port ) Good Luck
