I have an external 56K modemthat is set up on ttyS0. I have PPP setup as well. Whenever I connect to PPP i get connected OLNY at 16.8K. I have the modem port set to 48000K. Anyone know what the issue might be?
My /etc/inittab setting for the port is as follows:
S0:2345:respawn:/sbin/mgetty ttyS0 48000 vt100 James Collins

Check out this page on my linux site:
in particular the rc.local line under item #3. That may be what you need to get things going since the "spd_vhi" option of the "setserial" command may be necessary for operating your modem at the proper speed, but I am only guessing.

That did not help. I still connect at 16.8kbs. I have the Everything set to 115200 in inittab and in the modem setups. It is an external modem on com 1. Any other suggestions? James Collins

Your telephone line from PABX or direct line?
That wil be your telephone line quality problem
If the telephone line from PABX already configured baud rate 9.6 kbps or higher. So you got the problem with the connection speed.
Did you try other modem/telephone line ? Or you can dial to other ISP.

This is a PPP connection to the server from an outside source. I have the server setup at work and I dial into it from home. I will try it again tonight with a different phone line. James Collins
