I had a Zoom 56K PCI modem (Model 2925L) in my Win 98 computer which worked well with no problems. When I upgraded to Win ME, the modem was not identified correctly by Win ME. It was assigned a COM port not listed in Device Manager. Even when I manually loaded the drivers from the manufacturer’s CD ROM first and then attached the modem (as per manufacturer’s instructions), Win ME still assigned its own drivers and COM Port and I was unable to get the modem (and e-mail) to work. Any ideas as to causes and remedies? Thanks.

Boot to safe mode.
Remove all modems and com ports in device manager.
Restart, reinstall. Cheers,
Jim
