I am creating a program that turns off the modem speaker to enable silent communications. In my tests, even when the modem speaker is turned off, you can hear a slight click when the modem initiates the call.

How do I eliminate the click?

Since there are no actual moving parts on a modem, my guess is it has to be the speaker on the modem board reacting to the line power.

I appreciate any help with this.

There are moving parts on some modems. The relay (little red or black box) actually has contacts that move to connect the phone line to the system. It's probably that click you're hearing.
To test it, you could temporarily unsolder the speaker. Cheers,
Jim
