At a remote site I have a Partner II release 3.0 with Partner Mail release 3.0. There is a modem attached to the partner mail sytem. Is it for remote programing? If so where do I find software to use with it. How do you call it?

It is used for remote diagnostics, and programming by Avaya's tech support. You can connect a PC using a null modem cable. Use 1200-N-8-1, the password is the serial number of the Partner Mail. You can pull configuration reports, which make it helpful to see how the Automated Attendants and mailboxes are set up.

As an aside, I have seen many times that if the modem is plugged in and powered up, it can prevent the Partner Mail from booting up. So be sure to turn off the modem when it is not needed.
