Modem on a Compaq Laptop

Had major probs with a Compaq Evo n160. Major system failure caused me to reload the OS. I couldn't find the restore disk so I formatted the HD and loaded Win98. I'm having major probs with the drivers, particularly the modem. The Modem and the Nic seem to be on the same card, but I can't be for certain without cracking the case. There is no modem listed on the driver page on the Compaq (HP) website. The NIC drivers seem to have modem drivers in the same folder, but they don't seem to work.

Anyone have any ideas? I've been hitting my head against the wall for more than 2 hours on this one....Any help would be most appreciated...

All I could find for the Evo n160 were XP drivers, but the same modem is in the Evo n610 and it lists this driver for Win 98. It's worth a shot.

Actually, the corp office found a restore CD. I;m going to try to extract the drivers from the CD. If not, then I'll just move the data back off and restore the system....
