Hi again everyone hows it going? I think i may need a priest because the devil lives inside my computer. Ive recently bought an old dell desktop its 600MHZ so nothing special. It has a network card installed which i removed and replaced with a modem and the machine will not even switch on... absolutely no power. If i remove the modem all is fine again. The modem is going in a PCI slot(the same as the network card did) The only difference between the two is that the modem has two slots cut in the bottom where as the network card only has one. Do you think this is the problem???

no. i have a netgear nic with 2 cuts, no prob at all.
are you sure the modem is ok?
have you tried in a dif. slot?
what model is pc/modem?
it sounds like the modem is shorting the 5 volt, check dbl that it sits propper in the slot, check it in another pc.

Did you remove the drivers (COMPLETELY) for the nic first?
move it to another slot, after the drivers are removed, then reset configuration data in your bios, and set to pnp os....

I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.
