Modem instalation

Installed new modem and software with no problems. Win95 reports thru system properties that device is working properly. Trying to instal AOL software to connect to internet and get message that )modem is not detected. Could be in use or turned off.)
How can I test the modem to see if it is installed properly? Also how to turn on if turned off.

Firstly, I would go into COntrol Panel - Modems and go to Diagnostics to see if the modem is displayed - if it is, check diags for it. If everything here is ok, test Phone Dialer from accessories menu, or if this is not installed, just create a dial Up Networking connection to your mobile just to test the modem. If you get no response from your modem, what type/make/model is it and how did you install it?

Got the problem fixed. Turned out that port was not turned on. Thanks to all
