Modem hang with perform a Call

Actually we have a VPN conection configured to transmit automatically some files from one place to other. In some ocassions the modem fail and the only way for restablish the communication is restarting the machine.

We have a RedHat Advanced server 3.0, in the messages we find the following description and the machine remains trying establish the conection.


How i can fix this. The modem is a US ROBOTICS v.9 56k. and the shell works with AT commands.

And see the following message: PPP daemon has died! (exit code = 16).

Look at files in /var/log for an explanation find the following entries.

is this an internal or external modem?

It´s a External modem. The modem are connected in the COM2 and in some ocassions fail.
