Modem dissappearing

Hi

I was pleasantly surprised at WinXP's ability to find and install drivers for my external modem, when all I did was turn it on.

However after a reboot the modem's status in Control Panel becomes "Not present" and I have to remove it and reinstall to get it working again.

Any suggestions?

Are you sure it is powered on when you reboot the computer? Otherwise XP won't load the drivers for it.

In case you *do* turn it on later on, just run devmgmt.msc, alternate click (usually right click) any item, and select "Scan for hardware changes" ..

that should do the trick...
