Modem Dialer take-over...

Hi,
My dad has just got a new computer and it was pre-setup to use EirCom's dial in server (No broadband in his area) however it's been hi-jacked by a dialer...

I've cleaned it up and added /upgaraded the virus checkers/firewall/ad-aware/spybot/ reset the dialer parameters to dial the correct number again etc but is there a way (preferably freeware) of protecting his dial-up settings so that they can't be hijacked again??

As I mentioned going broadband is not an option so he's stuck using a 56k dialup modem and thefore potentially still at risk??

Any guidence gratfully received...

Only an Admin user can change the dial up settings. So, if you make you Dad an ordinary user after first setting up a separate Admin account for him then he should be safe on the net.

He will have to switch to the Admin account to do things like a microsoft update - but that is a minor inconvenience.

You could also change the security on the reg keys that control the DUN settings. I don't think that most dial high jack software will think to try to change the security settings of the reg keys.
