Hi all,
I have a PIII computer with a connexant modem and INTEX PCtel modem installed. I have win98, win2000 and winxp on my computer. Before I purchase the PCTel modem I had only the connexant one. The conexant modem either disconnects me or no data transfer when I log on to winxp or Win2000. It works fine only on win98. I thought this is the winxp and reformatted the drive and did a fresh install. Loaded the correct driver. but no solution. Then I thought it is because of the driver shipped with WinXP. I reformatted to make sure that it is clean and installed the modem with the correct driver from the CD. No solution. Then I thought this is the modem problem and purchased the PCTel modem. reformatted the drive and did a clean INstall.

Windows XP doesn't ship the driver for this modem so I installed the driver for the modem from the CD. But still the same.

Please help. .NET only works as a development environment on 2000 or winxp. So I will be forced to switch back and forth between 98 and XP everytime I need Internet and chat.

BTW I have disabled call waiting and other features without success.

Repair you Winsock service stack. You will need to do this both on Win2k and XP.

Hi bcastner,
Thanks for the fast reply. One thing it is a fresh install of the windows XP. Second immediately after the fresh install I have applied the SP2 from Microsoft. I am not rejecting yours but doesn't this guarentee that I have a clean winsock stack.

How do I update the winsock stack? I want to give it a try?

My modem has this chipset conexant HSFi CX11252-11 E229918.1 and I was thinking a firmware update nut don't know where to go.

I would not have upgraded to SP2 for XP.

I have not completed this because an awful lot of people I know are having similar problems to you. I am staying with SP1 until MS fix these problems (not holding out much hope there).

Reamin positive. The affect on those around you will amaze.

Thks for the reply but I tried with a fresh installtion, after applying SP1, and also after applying SP2 separately all after a clean install. But nothing. Now I am wondering if it is my PCI that doesn't comply with win2k and above systems. Just thinking. I will have to try with external modem and see what happens. Also my PC have an AMR slot andI might try that one also

Thanks again for the reply.
