Modem continues to make noise after connection.

I have installed a connexant softkey 56k modem into a PC with windows 98SE a Generic driver is installed. I am using tascali as an ISP. The modem will connect and operate but the connection noise continues after connection is made and the PC soon locks up.

Hi Funky, Grit yore teeth.....Right click on IE Icon on desktop. Click properties. Click Connections. Highlight the Network that you need to shush up. Left click settings. In settings, click properties. Left click configure. Left click connections. Left click advanced. Now where it says extra settings, type in ATM1 in upper case.This will tell the modem to shut up after the dialling sequence. It is a hayes modem command. the AT means attention and the M1 is the command.
