modem connection on vty

hi there, we are trying to connect a modem on one of the vty of P520. we are running aix 5.3 and using a "smart" modem brand.

we were able to do a "cu" command and able to do some at commands. When we try to connect to the modem, most of the time it won't "autoanswer" and needs to reset the modem.

the worst things is that it gives a high io wait and hangs the system.

is there anyone who have configured the modem on P520? would you be able to share some knowledge and the setting on your vty like the speed, flow control used, etc?

I have got a terminal working on a vty port.

Using 19,600 and 8,1,none worked fine.

Exactly which modem? I used to work for US Robotics, and getting them to spell UNIX was dufficult in the beginning.

Eventually the Courier did everything very well except fax. 3Com may have fixed that by now.
