modem config

Hi all,
i have a 2610 (1 ethernet,1 console,1 AUX, 1 WIC-2T)and an external diamond 56k analog modem.
I attached this modem on AUX port (with RJ45-DB9)
i do:
>line aux 0
>modem autoconfigure discovery
but i cannot see any action on modem leds.
i want to configure this modem to dial out a ppp connnection
I wonder what am i doing wrong. or what is missing?
