Modem as a dialer

I have a Partner II Communications System Rel. 3.1. On page 4-19 of the manual it shows a modem installed on a PC and connected to an extension with a system phone hanging off it as well. In this configuration it appears as though I can have a modem and use it as a dialer from my PC and them use the phone once I am connected. Whne I connect the modem this way the phone gives a constant clicking sound and cannot be used. The modem does not dial out. What am I doing wrrong or am I asking for something that is impossible?

You should be able to hook any standard "tip-ring" device through the aux jack on the bottom of your system phone, or use an adapter jack at the wall. I use an auxiliary headset with dial pad, and can dial calls with the headset device, then switch to the system phone. I occasionally get a short (half-second) silence in the headset when another system phone bridges onto the conversation.

Have you tried hooking the modem and a regular phone directly to a phone line, and testing what you want to do? Is your modem perhaps trying to dial in pulse mode instead of tone mode? Can you try substituting a regular phone for the modem, and pretending, just to see if there's a problem with your station card? (Or wiring?) Try also plugging into the AUX jack on the phone instead of using an adapter at the wall, to rule out that possibility of wiring error.

do you have the phone plugged into the modem ?

wall to modem then out to phone ?

it needs to be parrell either both devices hooked to the jack via a splitter on mls phones or as js shelton suggests the modem plugged into the AUX jack in the bottom of the partner phone .

it will work have customers using it

Some modems are polarity sensitive too. They will appear to be dialing and not connect.
