using Microsoft windows ME and have lost modem connection and COM 2. Only ports registered are COM 1 and LPT 1.
Understand I have to go to BIOS but haven't a clue how to do that. Can you guide me in simple language - I'm a simple 75 year old silver surfer !!!

keihaz,
this is not the right forum to ask this question, as it's a hardware problem rather then TCP/IP. Ask your question on general PC hardware forum, you'll probably get more response.
You might also try some Windows ME forum, I've had some problems with disappearing hardware in that OS (CD drive in my case). Try to be more specific too - write as much as you can about the hardware you're using, esp. modem manufacturer and type, it'd be also helpful to know about any windows updates/program installations you made recently. That would make it much easier to help.
One basic thing I can think of - try opening Control Panel and click "Add new hardware" (or anything similar, I don't have any Windows ME so can't check it). Maybe it'll autodetect your modem and reinstall it.
