Modal window problem on published application

I have a vendor supplied C++ app which when run with published apps, will lose focus(become greyed out)and hangs the app, when opening or closing some modal windows. it runs fine if we have the user connect with a Citrix desktop, but our preferred method is a published app. Anything on the Citrix side that may cause this? Running Metaframe 1.8
