Does anyone know how to get around the wireless carriers character limit on short txt messaging? An obvious solution is to send multiple messages but we are looking for an alternative. We want people to be able to receive approx. 500 characters in a message and only cary one device (cell phone). We have tried the Blackberries but they are too expensive for this project and we don't want txt pagers because then we're back to two devices.

Thanks for any input!

I know Nextel allows 500 characters but we don't get good coverage with their service.
AT&T Wireless and Verizon have limits of 110/150 characters.

Unless the carrier does it for you no. This would mean hacking the phones software and changing the programing to allow for more characters. Unless there is a menu item that allows you to change the amount. Have you spoken with the carrier you are using.[ponder]

Create a code list. (I know this is not the answer you wanted).

It actually saves time for all. If I send to someone a #555 and my current phone number, they darn well better call me now. We created a list of 999 codes, most blank. But the efficiency of the 15 or so that are used constantly is impressive.

It is hard to "type" on those little things. Code your most common messages.

Consider looking at a carrier that has the Treo from handspring. You can recieve normal e-mail on them, just create a fowarding address for each user so that the mail goes to their phone and the real mail box.
