Hi,

i'm looking to know if i'm calling a mobile phone. Is there a q.931 IE or other message i can use during a SETUP message or before the CONNECT message.

We have developped a call center PBX solution using dialogic boards and we want to hangup if we call a mobile phone to prevent end user call fee.

Thanks

What your are really asking for is access to a database. This is one of the biggest differences between ISDN and SS7. SS7 has database provisions, so it is likely if you had SS7 you and a paid database lookup privileges this could be done. Complicated and expensive though.

I am in the US so I am only vaguely familiar with how mobiles operate elsewhere. My understanding is that the number format allows an intelligent user to distinguish if a number is a mobile.

Assuming this to be the case, you should be able to create routing tables based on those "special digits" that then route the calls to a dummy extension, trunk group, or to the attendant.

I have an additional question. It would seem to me that if a call to a mobile cost (for example) 0.50 euro per minute then you might very well wish to also prevent non-mobile calls that cost this amount. This may be possible using the metering supplementary service, but I am not sure.

good luck

Thanks for the reply,

In the world of marketing research call center, there are some restrictions, which are different in every country. One of them restrict call to mobile/cellular phone.

Before the Number Transportability between land base phone and mobile/cellular phone, we were able to remove all mobile/cellular phone number from our database, using the area code and NXX number allocation scheme.

For exemple, we knew for sure that 1-514-272-xxxx was a land base from bell canada, and 1-514-581-xxxx was a mobile/cellular from Microcell a cellular carrier.

Now, people can transfer their phone number from a land base carrier to a mobile carrier and vice-versa, so we cannot use the allocation scheme anymore.

As we use ISDN (no access to SS7), i'm looking for a way to get this information from the ISDN messages or Information Element for the Network to User interface.

The information can be destination carrier or call type (like incoming call ANI II digits from NANPA).

Thanks.

Mobile calls (in the UK at least) are flagged as being "3k1 speech" (rather than "Normal Speech")

Fax calls are also flagged at 3K1, so be aware

Take Care
