I have a customer whose firewall is managed by their ISP. It is a Cisco ASA. I am trying to get them to forward the correct ports to both the phone system and one-x portal server, and they are saying they can't forward 1 public IP to 2 different private IP's. This seems ludicrous to me. I can do this on my router the cable company gives to me. Not familiar with a Cisco ASA. Is this reasonable, or do they just lack the talent?

They lack the talent. They should very easily be able to P/NAT some ports to one internal IP address and other ports to another internal address. It's basics of this function.

They may be right if they are saying "they can't", maybe they should hire someone who can =)

They could also use Google and maybe learn something about the things the manage.

To be honest if the ISP techs don't know how to configure their firewalls it's time to look for a new ISP.

Cisco techs are lazy and do one to one NAT rather than forward just the required ports, so they can't split the ports between internal addresses. They just can't be arsed to re do it properly as they should have in the first place. Had an ISP who runs one of our customers Cisco's tell me the same thing the other day....it happened in the end :)

It's up there, if you know what you're doing (not saying I do)...:)
