ok, I think I screwed something up. My mnttab file is completely empty. I still had the "type mnttab" in the screen buffer so I restored the file that way. I ran setmnt and I think that is what cleared it out. What does this file do? I am not usually that dangerous!!
 
It contains the list of what is currently mounted. Look at it as you mount and unmount file systems and watch it change.
 
As I rebuilt it, I did the df command and saw just that. Thanks, it is making a little sense now.
