MMF folder is WAY TOO LARGE!!!

I have a general question regarding the MMF folder within MS-Mail v 3.2x and the massive space it's taking up.

When I check status on the postoffice, it's taking up roughly 280 MB. However, when I look in the MMF folder it is 1.6 GB!!!! I've tried to compress with 0 luck.

What in the world is going on, and what can I do to size it down?
