MMControl and AVI

I am trying to play an avi movie at the start of a program, but am having difficulty in encoding it in anything better then 256 color MS-RLE. When I try to open an avi file encoded in anything else I receive “runtime error ‘35752’”

I am using:
VB 6.0
Windows XP
Microsoft Multimedia Control 6.0
Media Studio Pro 6.5 Video Editor (for movie creation)

Any help would be appreciated, thank-you.
