MM with CUCM or CM with Cisco Unity?

Hello,

I am trying to configure my MM 5.2 system to work with my Cisco CUCM system. The MM has a SIP trunk configured to CM 6. CM has a SIP trunk to CUCM Session Manager. Session Manager has a SIP trunk to CUCM. Call flow is Avaya phone thru SM to CUCM/VM pilot back to Avaya CM thru SM and ultimately to MM.

The calls work perfectly. I am able to leave a voicemail for the Cisco phone on MM and I can retrieve the call from Cisco phone without a problem. The only thing that does not work is MWI. Has anyone tried this and gotten MWI?

If not, has anyone tried the same scenario with an Avaya phone using Cisco Unity voicemail? All works except for MWI. I am trying to centralize on one VM platform and this is the last step.

Thanks!

What does the trace show when it tries to turn the light on ?

When I run a trace on the SIP trunk between CM and MM there is nothing. When I run a trace on the hunt group extension I also get nothing. Is there something else that needs a trace run on it?

The signaling will be between the SM and the MM for the MWI unless you do not have the MWI enabled in the SIP setup in the VMSC.

The only trunking for MWI is between the CM and MM. I do not have the licensing on MM to support a multi-PBX environment.

in the vmsc where it askes for the ip of the gateway what do you have in that field ? The IP or name of the _____ ? SM? PBX ?

And have you turned on advanced gateway logging in the VMSC /PBX /SIP tab ?

The vmsc is the IP address of the processor on Avaya CM. Advanced logging is turned on for the system as well. Here is the error I receive:

146816921 FINE 00E60 mwiserver [Undefined] CMWIServiceWrapper OnChange.MAS1-AES-LAB Operation failed due to transient error, request will be retried. StationID[5490051], RequestID[{2F562C29-8793-43B5-A283-4439391AE789}], Operation[MWI_SET], HR[0x80004005], Reason[UNKNOWN], Transient[TRUE]

This is logging from the MM not the PBX /Gateway logging that will show in fine detail the SIP message to and from the MM on any SIP messages.

This is turned on in the VMSC under the PBX and then SIP TAB.

Do you ever see in the OHV an error that looks something like this in relation to an mwi event ?
ERROR NT significant event with ID '3221227347' was reported with strings 'xxxxx\nChicago SIP\n
where the xxxxx is the ext / mailbox number ?

I understand what you are looking for now. I do get an error similar to what you are asking:

ERROR NT significant event with ID '3221227238' was reported with strings 'Set\nXXXXXXX\nUnknown error\n'

The following statement reads:

MWI request to 'Set' the lamp has been called for extension: XXXXXXX on port 0
MWI notification being sent to high-level component for extension XXXXXXX, error Set, request Unknown err from port 0

I also performed a trace on the trunk group built between the PBX and MM. There was no activity on the trunk when MM sent the MWI and the trace timed out.

you will not see it in the trace of the trunk i don't think as it is not using the trunk group itself to send the command. I assume you do not have any ports setup for MWI in the MM per the config note.

i have found some doc's on the support site but they seem to be offline or i can't get them to pull up for some odd reason if i can pull them i will post them

There are 48 ports setup for MWI in the MM for the IP SIP Telephony Interface. Thank you for taking the time to help me with this.

i do not think you should have any mwi ports setup at all.

Step 4.
For each MAS open the Port Groups item and verify that there are no MWI Port Groups defined and that the number of ports in the Default Group equals the maximum allowed for the hardware.

if you don't have this config note get it and look at the setup. You should not have any MWI ports assigned at all in the MM

The only port group is used for PC Clients, Telephone User Interface, Call Me and FAX. None of the ports are being used for MWI.

your previous post said you had 48 setup for MWI

That was my mistake. There is a default port group configured but it is only set to be used for PC Clients, Telephone User Interface, Call Me and FAX. It is not set to be used for MWI, but there is no option for that either. I cannot delete the port group and calls cannot reach the MM from CM if I deactivate the ports.
