A user reported (and sent me the wav file) that they received a voicemail (wav file) for 10 seconds. When they click on the wav file, the message below pops up:

Windows Media Player cannot play the file. The Player might not support the file type or might not support the codec that was used to compress the file.

If you call into their voicemail, there is indication of a message, but nothing to play-just says "end of message"...however, the user is concerned something went wrong...other messages are fine. Anyone seen this or have any ideas?

Additionally, we have MM5.2 with Exchange back-end. Since MM does not store messages and they are stored in Exchange, when we call in through the phone to play the message - where IS that message? Is it in Exchange???

Yes it is in Exchange where MM pulls the message from when you are reviewing it through the TUI.

If they forward the message to you, can you play it on your PC?

It sounds like either the local PC media player doesn't have the correct codec (should be Microsoft GSM or G.711) or the message itself was corrupt somehow.

No - I cannot play it - I get the same error and so does another person testing. The recipient does not have any trouble playing other messages...just this one. He says it happened once before. I have not heard of any other occurrences w/anyone. Know of anyway to determine if it was corrupt? I know the user will ask!
Thanks!
