MM Dialogic Line Tester Question

As per Avaya MAS Admin guide, when testign a port, what is "2. Dial the number of the port from a telephone." ? what does it mean ? MM ports are configured from 1-23, whey are they trying to tell you ? this is my first time and cannot find anything on web.....




Launching the Application
1. On your Windows desktop, click the Start > Programs > Avaya
Modular Messaging > Dialogic Line Tester menu.
The system displays the Dialogic DSE - Line Test Application window.
The Status column tells you the status of the channel.
Procedure 1: Testing a Port:
1. Click a port in the list.
2. Dial the number of the port from a telephone.
The status of the port should change to Receiving Call.
3. Hang up the telephone, and wait until the port changes to Waiting for
Call.
4. Click the port again.
5. Type a real telephone number into the Dial Number field, and click Dial
Number.
The status of the port should change to Dialing Number. Other status
changes may follow.

That note is telling you test DSE - digital set emulation, where you would have a Dialogic card emulating Nortel 2616 sets, or Avaya 7400 or 8400 digital sets, or any other brand of PBX and each digital port would have its own extension. If you've got channels 1-23, it would sound like you're using ISDN-PRI as your integration medium, and none of those 23 channels would have their own dialable extension. You would just have the pilot or other numbers for stuff like caller apps, but the D channel would be taking care of picking channels for calls.

so in this case, I will be dialing MM hunt group number
