MM 5.2 Exchange - MAS Service stopping when Offline activated

I am running 5.2 MM Exchange on SP7 (9.2.376.7004) and when I activate the Offline Store feature in the VMSC, I find that the Message Application Service will stop within 30 minutes. Has anyone experienced this before and knows the cause/resolution?

Do you only have one MAS ? Where is the offline store at ?

If you only have 1 MAS then you don't need (or really want) an offline store\share location for the offline access feature. Simply enabling the offline access feature should not prompt a restart of the service (that I remember) but it should also not stop the service.
