MM 3.1 FTP backup only vreating Folders

Hi All,
I have a site with MM 3.1 running an FTP backup nightly.
We have recently noticed that although a new folder is created every day as expected, the folder is empty.
Obviously permissions must be correct for the folder to be created, by has anyone any idea why there is no file created within the folder?

What error are you getting in the backup log ? is the FTP drive out of space
