MM 3.0: difficulty of install versus 2.0

I've done several MM 2.0 installs (all with the MSS back end) and am now faced with a 3.0 install (also with the MSS) in about a month. Unfortunately, I won't have time to attend training.

For those of you with 2.0 and 3.0 installs under your belt, how difficult is a 3.0 install without formal training?

If you know 2.0 then 3.0 will be a god send. you can use the DCT tool to fill out all the info and then let it do it's thing. you hit the install bat file on the desk top and then the system turns itself off. You turn it on and the MMdct tools runs and asks for the file and it fills in all the info on the MAS. Then move the file to the next MAS and do the same thing. Try not to use a tracing server that is not on an MAS as it can give you trouble. I have done one upgrade to 3.0 and 2 new installs with MSS and one with Exchange and they were much more trouble free than 2.0

Ken,

Thanks for your sharing your experiences. I reviewed the 3.0 planning guide and it appears that most of the information required for an install is the same as 2.0. I plan to review the concept guide and install guide before the hardware arrives so understand the entire process.

About your Upgrade i assume this was a R2 to R3 on the old S3400 box. What did Avaya provide you for upgrade? All CD's and DVD's along with the Windows 2003 server Keys and what else.
What about memory.
The old S3400 are only 512meg of ram and the new S3500 are 2gig of ram. I just dont like the idea to upgrade an old 3400 without upgrading the ram. I just think the S3400 is borderline with 512 to run a server. I would expect Avaya to raise that ram to at least 1gig. (memory cost nothing) and save you a lot of problem...

What you guy's think about that.

no new memeory but a new disk drive for the MAS and all of the dvd's for the systems. The S3500 has 2 gig of ram.

Do they include the Product Key on a sticker for the Windows 2003 in case we have to reload the MAS from DVD's?

Yes, you get the Windows 2003 SAK product key sticker to attach to the case.
