Make double, triple, quadruple sure that the station is programmed as an operator. If a station is not programmed as an operator, really strange things happen when a DSS is connected. Does the MLX20-L Have a MFM? If so, you will neeed external power. Do you have a bunch of other DSSs on that carrier? If you have the carrier filled to its capacity with DSSs, you may need external power. Check that operator programming, and if that doesnt work, I would try external power just for grins.

DO a self test at the Console and see how that turns out.

Intercom > Speaker > * Zero Zero

If the set is not adequately powered, then it will lock up or it will make a bad sound (STATIC, SNAP, CRACKEL, AND POP) if the wiring is not good.

This test may reveal something.

But no, DSS's don't break the MLX set, unless it's bad.

They tend to go bad when things get spilled on them or the clean up crew gets carried away.
