I have a customer with a Legend system. The ceo's phone shuts down a couple times a day in the middle of calls. Most time the lights go out and then the phone will come back up and the call may still be there. I have changed phones, card and cable to the location. Does any one have any thoughts, Help!!!? Thanks

Does it happen on intercom calls and outside calls? When does it happen, anything common in occurances? Do they have a PRI or T1 installed or is he making calls on loop/ground start lines? Is it only on inbound calls on DID. I would have the ceo check the display when the call drops to see if he still has call info on the display. Swap ports and carrier to see if problem follows. It could be a slew of things, but you took the first few steps in the right direction. Another question, is he the only person with the trouble, or is just that he is the ceo and everyone jumps when he shouts. Don't you just hate it when someone answers a question with a question.

Upgrade the Legend to a release 7.0. That is a known problem with the 6.x. A free upgrade can be obtained through the Business Partner Web site.

Before you do that, let's do a self test on the set itself.

TOUCH INTERCOM,

PRESS SPEAKER,

DIAL * ZERO ZERO

CRANK THE VOLUME ALL THE WAY UP !!!

ALL LIGHTS WILL COME ON....

A LOUD AND UNPLEASANT TONE WILL COME ON....

AND IF YOU HEAR "SNAP, CRACKEL, OR POP!!!, you have BAD CONNECTIONS to the CONTROL UNIT.

PRESS ANY BUTTON, and the LOUD AND UNPLEASANT TONE will go away.

BUT AGAIN, as I said, IF YOU HEAR "SNAP, CRACKEL, OR POP!!!, you have BAD CONNECTIONS to the CONTROL UNIT.

Bad wiring or something.

IF that is the case, trouble shoot the wiring.

Check it out.....

O.K. Merlin man I tried the self test as described. O.K.
O.K. Redphone The system has been upgraded to 7.0 problem continues. O.K. Jinxs, Yes to intercom call and out side call, DID calls or loop line calls (NO T-1). The phone will actually just die sitting there with no use. When the phone dies it dies no display no lights. Several people have experireced the problem here and there but no consistancesy. And they say not since the 7.0 upgrade. Apparenetly this bosses office has had this problem for a=over a year and half. started 1 or twice a month now daily event. I guess I will change out the carrier next. Any other thoughts will be appreciated. Thanks

Just as an idea...
The MLX telephones have had consistent ploblems with the keypad membranes. When they start to go, the phone will do all kinds of flukey things... Cut out, pick up lines, shut down, random lights flashing, etc..
You said that you had tried swapping the telephone, I would try this again. Be absolutely certain that the telephone you are putting in has worked flawlessly foir a while. I know of techs who replaced a phone with a bad membrane with another phone with a bad membrane and, no suprise, the problem did not go away. They then assumed that the problem must be with the system, when it was the phone all along.
If it is only happeneing on this one location, and the trouble does not change with swapping out the telephone, you might want to run new cable to this office. It could be a short in a jack, at the block, or in the cable itself.
Good luck!

One other thing that I thought of, you should be able to eliminate the telephone as the source of the probelm if you try replacing the MLX 10D with an MLX 10DP. The DP versions have a better membrane in the keypad and they do not seem to go bad as frequently as the 10Ds do.

Just wanted to update this situation. I replaced the 2 carriers on 4/24/04. Put it all back together. All came up O.K. Have not had the problems since replacing carriers. I appreciate the help on this sight and felt I should finalelize this one. Thanks
