Customer has an mlx phone on a magix that is part of a calling group. Can I plug in an analog answering machine to the aux port and log the phone in at night so that the machine can act as a night service for them? Thanks in advance.

No - you would have to add an MFM module to the bottom of the MLX phone - which is basically an additional single-line telephone on a circuit board.

Do I have to use an analog answering machine, I assume?
Does the MFM give me a simple RJ-11/45 port to plug in the answering machine? Sorry for the questions, but I REALLY need for this to work for this customer. Thx.

Dagwood, if this will work, then I would be interested in getting one from you. Please advise.

Bigger question would be if a single line station can be logged into a calling group for taking messages, or if you need to make the answering machine the overflow for the group.

The MFM has a single RJ11 port that can be used for any single-line device: phone, fax, modem, credit card reader, answering machine, etc. As for your setup - I would follow TouchToneTommy's advice.

Lets say that I have the MFM plugged into Ext. 100(MLX) and I log ext 100 in the calling group. When the call hits ext. 100, will the MFM answer that station?

If you decide that this is what you're looking for, I'll be glad to send it. It's working and it has all the instructions with it.

Just take my forum id and slap a dot com on the end. It's really easy to find me.

You're in good hands with Tom and Tommy! Call if you get the thumbs up.

The MFM has its OWN extension number, it doesn't just work as a bridged extension for the MLX phone. You could add a coverage button for the MLX phone on the MFM extension, but coverage buttons don't ring for calling group calls
