I know that this FORUM has some of the best trained and most experienced Lucent/AVAYA technicians, and developers anywhere in the world.
So I ask you, if money isn’t an issue, and you had to install a basic, very dependable system with 25 phones in a 3rd world country, would you prefer the Magix or the Legend carrier? What about phone types, MLX or 44xx type?
Any advice would be appreciated.

Mike

The Legend style carrier has a longer track record, and provides additionaly physical protection, since each circuit card is encased in its own plastic shell. But the Magix carrier offers better heat dissipation, and thus could lead to longer life. Personally, I find it easier to swap cards in the Legend carrier.

Using 44xx type phones, you can use fewer parts - if you confine yourself to 24 phones, you can use the 024TDL module, whereas with MLX phones you would need 2 or more MLX modules. 44xx phones need only a single pair of wiring, rather than 2 pair, which can improve reliability somewhat. Some of the older MLX phones had reliability problems, but if cost is no object, you'd be buying new phones.

You might consider supporting some single-line tip-ring phones, to allow for prompt replacement in case of failure, assuming that such phones are easily available. Otherwise, consider leaving spare parts on-site for minimum downtime.

I agree with JSHELTON.

Depending on the CLIENTS NEEDS, were I to recommend MULTI BUTTONS SETS, the 44xx would be my first choice.

3rd world - wiring - half the wire needed ==> TDL 4400 sets, UNLESS for some weird reason, voice announce over busy is necessary.

Pepperz,

It’s actually a wonderful place to live, and not at all 3rd world. We are different than most states though,
New Hampshire has no sales or income tax!

Thanks for responding
Mike

I'd be smiling about that one too.
