The DSS quit working at the operator position, but when I take the MLX and the DSS to the Legend and plug them to the port, the DSS works just wonderful. Swapped out the 408 card, doubled up on the copper pairs (long run) and the DSS still won't work at the operator position. ANY IDEAS?

By the way the Legend is a R6.1, 2-408,1-008, 1-016TR and a 007 Merlin Mail

Are you sure all 8 conductors are making it to the JACK?

Test the wiring and prove that it is coming thru....

The DSS must have the power pair.

(What can BROWN do for you???)

If that doesn't work, a local power supply may suffice....

Merlinman,
Thanks for the reply, This unit worked for months in the operator position (same place as when it quit) Blue Keyed Cord is OK to the DSS unit, Do you think that the aging process has gotten to the console power section, that is where the DSS gets it power from. Also, I am not familar with the DSS power supply and how it connects to the Phone/DSS unit. Do you have a part number or comcode number?
Thanks again to all,

All I can remember is the POWER was on the BROWN pair.

There were a couple of set ups.

1 where the power unit did the "switching" and the other where there was a 400 (or some kind) adapter that split the wiring up to make it happen.

I have no drawings.

If you have a MLX-28 you could swap them out and see what happens.

Tell me again, if you connect this right at the CONTROL UNIT, does it work or not?

Merlinman,
Yes it works at the control unit OK. And by the way I found the trouble. A mouse ate the insulation on the 4 pr in the overhead and the Brown/White pair was laying on the fluted steel plate - grounding one side of the line. When I tested it with my 4-pr tester the pair indicated an OK condition (doesn't test for a ground), but the power was going to ground. Your "What can Brown do for you" got me digging deep into the problem. Thank you and everyone else that responded to this unusual case of trouble.
